Excellent service and atmosphere. Kitchen clean and homelike. Breakfast items provided for the first morning...very thoughtful.

MacaBana Resort Review
Let me start with some positives.
We had a lovely time. The people of Grenada are some of the nicest we have ever met, this includes the staff at the MacaBana and Aquarium Restaurant. They are kind, helpful and always smiling. One big shout out to Vaughn who looks after you at the beach and who is always available to drive you around. He is the best!
On our first day Vaughn and another gentleman offered us fresh coconuts. It was a real treat and a great start to the vacation!
The beach is lovely. There is a steep hill to walk down but once there, a very quiet and beautiful beach is waiting for you. The beach was not super calm during our stay. We were there for 11 days and had waves pretty much the entire time. Our kids loved them. The water is still amazing and so clear. Many come to this beach for snorkelling. Guests at the Royalton would walk down to where we were since our area was nicer to swim into.
MacaBana is very close to the airport and the resort does provide a complimentary shuttle. A few breakfast staples are waiting in the fridge at the beginning of your trip and the resort accommodated a late check out which we really appreciated.
The not so great - I would not call MacaBana a luxury resort. It feels more like an average VRBO rental.
We were in the Pineapple Villa. The in room safes and the hot tub did not work and it seems like they haven't worked in awhile. We had a toaster that was broken but they replaced it. There are no offered toiletries other than bars of soap. There is no daily housekeeping but they do come if you ask front desk. BTW the ladies in housekeeping were lovely. You also need to ask for clean beach towels. This is a great way to minimize negative environmental impacts but as a luxury resort, I like to have clean towels daily.
Air conditioners are only in the two bedrooms which we were aware but a fan in the kitchen would have been a good idea. You can't open windows because of the mosquitos. The screens on the window have holes or small rips and the door had a small crack where they could sneak in. We always had mosquitos in the rooms and would wake up with bites. Bring mosquito repellent.
MacaBana is very small but it would have been nice to get a tour and show us how to get to the beach/restaurant and some info about the resort (i.e. no daily housekeeping, BBQ on Sunday at Aquarium). We just got a quick tour of our villa.
The kitchen is equipped but a few things were lacking and some utensils, pots, and pans should be replaced.
The pillows in the bedrooms were all a mishmash and not very comfortable. They also seem like they should be replaced.
Lastly, on their website they state that the Pineapple Villa is perfect for families with small kids with which I disagree. Our kids are not small so this wasn't a big deal. The bedrooms are on opposite sides of the villa, there is no tub to bathe children in, and the kitchen does not have a table. There are only three high chairs around a small kitchen island where the burners are located. Not the best set up if you have little kids and a family of four cannot sit all together at the same time.
MacaBana may have been luxury when it first opened but today, it needs to be updated and refreshed. You can see the wear and tear in the unit and around the property. Despite my negative comments, we still had a great vacation. Grenada is a safe and friendly island.

Mixed Feelings
Here are the pros and cons of our trip:
PROS: gorgeous scenery, spacious accommodations, fabulous on-site, restaurant with great ambience right on the beach. There was a driver there that worked on property named Vaugn who literally made our trip easier as he took us up and down the very steep hill (yes it is!!) and anywhere else we wanted to go on the island and he was very prompt to answer on WhatsApp! His service was invaluable! Just make sure to give him a tip.
CONS: we were promised a working Jacuzzi at our mango villa and stated that was very important to us which we reiterated many times both by email and verbally before our booking. When we got there Sheena told us it broke that very morning not really seeming very sympathetic. We really don’t think it was ever really working as it seems to have had a lot of problems in the past, and that was one of the main reasons of booking the mango villa at this location, which was a very huge disappointment. Plus we paid extra for it. The last day the owner did come talk to us, which was nice and he picked up our lunch bill but we rather have had the Jacuzzi working. He seemed aggravated himself about it and I think he wants to do away with it as it breaks down often, seemed beat up and would have to really be replaced with something new. If that Jacuzzi was clean, new and working, I would’ve given the five stars. We were not thrilled with Sheena in the office attitude. Either she was not in the office or she rarely answered on WhatsApp as that was the only way to communicate with anyone at the place. The villa was a two bedroom villa which was nice but think it needed a good refresh and maybe put some blackout shades in the second bedroom and
a screen door going to the outside deck. The beach there was very rough being at the end of the island and it was extremely windy at that location. Luckily Vaughn took us to a public beach that was fabulous and calm about 10 minutes away. Overall, we did end up having a lovely time, but would probably go to a resort along the other beach for swimming but we needed a 2 bedroom for our daughter. Expect when you go to eat at the restaurant to be sitting there for at least two hours as it’s very slow in service but luckily we were in no rush to go anywhere so all was good.

Fantastic stay
Pros
- staff were very friendly and responsive
- fantastic restaurant right on the beach (aquarium)
- rooms: large, spacious and with a full kitchen, living room, balcony and plenty of seating. Tv had Netflix etc
- breakfast is technically not included but they give you breakfast items to cook for yourself - eggs, bread, cheese, juice and fruits
- beach is beautiful and secluded. They have a handful of chairs and we didn’t have an issue. Not as busy or loud as Grand Anse
- it’s a 3 min drive to the airport
Cons:
- steep hill to get to the beach and restaurant. It’s paved and not horrible
- water is not as calm as Grand Anse which was like flat water. Also more rocks in the water. But we loved it.
- since more secluded not many options for food/ drink outside of what you bring in (huge fridge) and aquarium unless you have a car
- we had mosquitoes in our bedroom :(
- air conditioner worked great but was only in bedroom. Couldn’t stay long in upstairs living room due to heat (can’t open windows due to misquotes)
Overall we loved our stay and would recommend for those who want lots of space in a fully furnished apartment / want to cook and more secluded stay

Tanisha the receptionist was very helpful and also the taxi on site his name Vaughn took us everywhere we needed to go. Very nice guy ask for him when you visit Grenada 5 star service
