If you are looking for the "real" Ireland, look no further than McGrory’s in Culdaff. I recently stayed here, and it is rare to find a place that manages to be a top-tier hotel, an incredible culinary destination, and a legendary music venue all in one.
From the moment you arrive, you feel the "Inishowen warmth." The business where the staff treat you like a regular within an hour of checking in. The Front Bar is the highlight—with its open fire and an authentic feel that you just can't manufacture. Whether you’re stopping in for a quiet pint or catching a spontaneous traditional music session, it’s the kind of place where time slows down.
The hotel is famous for a reason. Their "Backroom" venue is world-renowned for its acoustics and history, having hosted everyone from local legends to international icons. Even if there isn't a ticketed show on, the casual sessions in the Front Bar are pure magic. It’s not just a hotel; it’s a cultural institution.

Mediocre
We stayed at this hotel two years ago and had the most amazing experience of staying and eating here. We have wanted to return ever since, and we visited while in culdaff this week. We know it’s changed owners but still had high hopes. First of all the menu has changed, I loved the mussels and Kinnegar IPA and neither were on the menu! I was looking forward to this so was disappointed. I got chowder to start and it was alright, and then the burger for a main, and it was very good. However the chips are so chunky they are potato sides not chips! Service was quick and friendly, and they are dog friendly, so we had a good experience, it just was not as good as the first time we visited in 2024.

Wonderful hotel
Recently had a lovely 2 night stay at McGrory’s, which was wonderful. The whole place is very homely, with a friendly atmosphere, clean, room serviced daily by the lovely housekeepers, all staff helpful, pleasant and courteous and as a guest who needs to eat gluten free food I was very well catered for with breakfast and dinner. I found the whole stay to be excellent value for money. Parking is across the busy road and there is plenty of space.
Culdaff is an excellent location and the beach is close by. One wee thing is the road noise as it is on the Main Street but we brought ear plugs just in case and we did use them, just a personal preference. Nothing I would complain about. I have visited before and will stay there again.

very bad
We stayed in mcgrorys last week at breakfast first morning no juice no cerial haphazard start my wife got 2susages and eggs i got full irish my wife said the susages are going off and i agreed the so called chef came to our table and tasted a bit and declared that they were TOO FRESH OR UNDERCOOKED i never heard anthing like itin allour travels plus NO APOLOGY. No wifi in rooms No tv get wifi at reception only nobody seems to care when we told receptonist a grunt and shurged her sholders as tough luck NO MANAGEMENT. The lady that served breakfast on tuesday 19th knew how to treat people and is manager material.Allthe staff are plesent and friendly but no training in hospitality. WE WILL NEVER STAY THERE AGAIN .PS Put some chicken in chicken curry not 8%chicken and 82% veg and put sone crab in crab cakes but i think every is bought in ready cooked
