Safe, clean, comfy for solo travel
I spent a night at the Hostel Barrera, and it was clean, comfortable, and safe for a solo female traveler. It’s centrally located, particularly close to Museo Reina Sophia. The front desk staff were friendly and helpful. The only complaint is that the walls are thin, so if you’re sensitive to noise, be prepared. They provide earplugs, and I played white noise on my phone.

Very good choice
Perfectly located hostel on Calle Atocha and close to the train station.Perfect to visit the city as it is 4 steps from Plaza Real and Sol Room spacious and very clean. Nice and very correct service. Highly recommended. We'll be back.

Clean, Tidy, Quiet, perfect pillows, great mattress, full amenities, basic and no-frills but functional services. Original access via mobile both from the street and for the interior, with the security of the safety card. Reception smiling and helpful. There's nothing more to ask for

a small hotel service rather than a standard hostel experience
They provide reasonable accommodation at a fair rate. For most main attractions, the hostel is in an unbeatable location for those who enjoy walking and is also just a few steps from public buses and the Antón Martín metro stop for lazy days. You can reach the express airport shuttle at Atocha train station in 10-15 minutes on foot, too. All three staff members I met at the hostel were smiling and helpful, much like many people I encountered in the beautiful city of Madrid. My single room was clean, neither small nor large, and looked exactly like the photos—no surprises there. This is not a party hostel. Indeed, their service is like that of a small hotel. They are part of an entire apartment building, which you enter with a card they provide or through their mobile app after check-in. No strangers can enter the premises, which is an admirable safety precaution, especially considering they do not have a receptionist during the night. Additionally, from my experience, this busy vicinity felt safe both day and night. The hostel has around 10 rooms or so in a compact design. You might hear customers coming and going from time to time due to this compact layout. They also had the heating on, which was appreciated. Some establishments might have turned it off due to the perfect weather in early November, but they chose to avoid even the slightest late-night chill, which made me happy. There is no breakfast offered at the property. For breakfast, I picked Pastelería América, just 250 metres up the road across the street. Moreover, there are all-day eatery options, the Antón Martín market and some chain supermarkets within a couple of minutes' walk. For a drink or some tapas on a night out, you'll find plenty of bars and taverns located within a mile or less.
